Lana Martysheva is a Max Weber fellow at the European University Institute. She holds a PhD in Early Modern History from the Sorbonne University. Her doctoral research examined the political actions of a circle of prelates to legitimize the first Bourbon king of France as a means to end the civil war. Her book is forthcoming. She has taught history at the Sorbonne, Aix-Marseille University and Sciences Po. She is currently working on a project that studies the circulation of information about the French Wars of Religion in Italian States (Florence, Milan, and Rome). She focuses on the stakes that this information had within specific local cultural, political and religious contexts. This approach aims at uncovering how the uses of news about distant, but disruptive, events can be revealing of both converging and distinct political practices and cultures. Currently based in Florence, Lana focuses on the study of avvisi and diplomatic correspondence from the collection “Mediceo del Principato”.
