Emily Wood

Emily Wood is a PhD candidate in Art History at Northwestern University. Her research investigates the artistic and political interactions between the courts of Philip II of Spain (r. 1556-1598) and the Medici. She completed her BA in Art History at Mount Holyoke College and an MPhil in the History of Art and Architecture at the University of Cambridge. Before beginning her PhD, she was a curatorial fellow at the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum for two years. She was the 2016-2017 Andrew W. Mellon COSI Curatorial Fellow at the Art Institute of Chicago, where she worked with Rebecca Long on an upcoming El Greco exhibition. During the 2017-2018 academic year, she conducted research in Spain on a Fulbright Research Fellowship. Her dissertation, “Art, Politics, and Diplomacy at the Courts of Philip II in Madrid and the Medici in Florence,” is under the direction of Jesús Escobar, with Rebecca Zorach and Edward Muir serving as committee members.
