Eleanor Russell

Eleanor Russell is a PhD student at the University of Cambridge, where she studies the responses of the elite European merchant-banking companies to the overseas discoveries in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. She focuses upon the cultural activities of these merchants, using their letters to gain insights into their mentalities, their interpretations of new developments and information, and their strategies to gain economic and socio-political capital through trade and through their relationships with European rulers.
