Ashley Lynn Buchanan is a doctoral history student at the University of South Florida studying early modern Italy, specifically the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. Her dissertation research focuses on the culinary, medicinal, and alchemical recipe collection of the last Medici Princess, Anna Maria Luisa de Medici (1667-1743).She is also interested in the burgeoning global drug trade of the eighteenth century, through which Anna Maria Luisa procured many of her rare and valuable recipes, raw medicinal materials, and medical knowledge, in addition to the Medici court culture of science and medicine.
