Wouter obtained his bachelor degrees in History and Italian and a research master degree in History from Leiden University. His master thesis discussed how the idea of Italy appeared in the correspondence between the Sforza, Estensi and Gonzaga. Furthermore, during his time as a master student he worked in the digitization project called “Vincentian missionaries in Seventeenth-century Europa and Africa” and undertook an internship at the Royal Dutch Embassy in Rome.
He is currently a doctoral research fellow in the EURONEWS project. His research focuses on partisanship and cultural identity in the avvisi.
