June 2, 2009

We are very pleased to announce that in September 2009, Dr. Roberta Piccinelli will join the MAP Research Team in Florence. Dr. Piccinelli was recently awarded a three-year fellowship (15 September 2009 – 15 July, 2012) supported by the Compagnia di San Paolo.

Dr. Roberta Piccinelli received her Italian laurea from the Università di Verona and her doctoral degree in Art History from the Università di Teramo with a dissertation entitled: Communication and Documentary Research. Sources and Meta-sources on Art Collecting and Sponsorship in Mantua (1630-1709). She has taught at Teramo and Verona and directed the Museo Civico Polironiano in San Benedetto Po. Between 1997 and 2002 she contributed to the “Progetto Gonzaga” funded and coordinated by the International Centre for Art and Culture ‘Palazzo Te’. This project focused on a thorough analysis of archival documents in the “Domestic and Foreign Court Correspondence” filze housed in the Archivio di Stato in Mantua and on the creation of a digital archive for this historical and artistic data. Dr. Piccinelli has published a number of important scholarly books and articles dealing mostly with the Gonzaga artistic patronage and archival sources, including: Le collezioni Gonzaga. Il carteggio tra Mantova e Milano (1563-1634), Cinisello Balsamo (2003) and Dopo il 1630. I Gonzaga Nevers e la “superbissima galeria” di Mantova. Firenze (forthcoming).
