Piedmont and the Savoia (1537-1743)

The Medici Archive Project (MAP) is offering a three-year fellowship (15 September 2009 – 15 July, 2012) with twenty months of fulltime document assessment and description for the Documentary Sources database onsite at the Archivio di Stato in Florence and ten months of independent research on a topic related to Piedmont and the Savoia during the period 1537-1743, carried out in two 5-month segments in the second and third year of the fellowship period.

Fellows will have the following qualifications: a completed Ph.D. or the equivalent in a humanities field relevant to Early Modern European history and culture (an expertise in the history of the Savoia family is desirable); fluency in English and Italian (as well as knowledge of other languages including French and Latin); substantial research experience with original documentary material; the ability to work with computer database programs and commitment to a scholarly career involving archival research.

The fellowship stipend is Euro 30.000 plus an allowance for travel expenses. This fellowship is supported by the Compagnia di San Paolo.
