Message from the Chair, Martha McGeary Snider

January 30, 2009

Dear Friends of the Medici Archive Project: I am delighted to report that MAP has a new President and Cultural Director. Today, the Board of Trustees voted to name Manfredi Piccolomini to the position effective February 1, 2009

Manfredi Piccolomini, a native of Florence and a resident of New York, graduated from the University of Florence and went on to receive his PhD from Harvard. A professor at the City University of New York and from 2006, a member of the Council of National Endowment for the Humanities, Manfredi has published several books and editions on the Italian and European Renaissance, including the The Brutus Revival, which received praise and recognition in periodicals from the scholarly community. Manfredi also contributes to national magazines with general interest articles. The former Cultural Director of the Foundation for Italian Art and Culture (2003-2006), Manfredi organized several important exhibitions in New York and elsewhere, including the first-ever showing in the US of Raphael’s La Fornarina at the Frick Collection, and the Antonello da Messina show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Manfredi brings to the Medici Archive Project his competence in non-profit management, his proficiency in Renaissance studies, and his experience in organizing exhibitions in museums in the US and abroad.

While these developments bring much promise for the future of the Medici Archive Project, nothing that we do would be possible without the support of the foundations, academic institutions, government agencies, scholars and individuals that over the years encouraged us to go forward. As we look to the future with confidence, we want you to know how grateful we are for your friendship and support.

Sincerely,

Martha McGeary Snider

Medici Archive Project, Chair
