The Jane Fortune Research Program on Women Artists in the Age of the Medici

July 4, 2010

The Medici Archive Project is pleased to announce the launch of The Jane Fortune Research Program on Women Artists in the Age of the Medici. This pilot program is the first ever to be dedicated to archival research on women artists active in the years 1500 to 1750, a period which includes such groundbreaking historical figures as Plautilla Nelli, Artemisia Gentileschi, Elisabetta Sirani, and Rosalba Carriera. Instigated through the guiding vision of author and philanthropist Dr. Jane Fortune and directed by Dr. Sheila Barker, the program will also support the publication of the results of this research, as well as public outreach activities including a public lecture series, annotated visits to the works of women artists, and student internships.
