"PAINTING" includes references to painting in general (techniques, history, theory, collecting) and to particular works in: oil (on canvas, panel, copper, slate, etc.); tempera; fresco; miniature; historiated majolica and other related media. The Project's goal is to be as inclusive as possible (citing even vague or circumstantial references, i.e. "Pagate quelle due pitture.") in order to support narrowed searches by "PERSON", "PLACE", "DATE RANGE" and "WORD SEARCH". Unspecific references to "quadretti", "istorie", "tavoline", etc., are indexed as PAINTING when there is a reasonable chance that painting is implied. References to miniatures in manuscripts are cross-indexed under "BOOKS AND PRINTING". References to painting on paper or parchment are cross-indexed under "DRAWINGS". Painters of all kinds who are identifiable by name are indexed as "ARTISTS". References to unnamed or otherwise obscure painters ("Michele dipintore") are generally indexed under "PAINTING", even when they appear in contexts not directly relevant to this activity ("quel pittore straniero mi ha ringraziato del regalo di vino.") The MEDICI ARCHIVE PROJECT INC. is registered as a non-profit
corporation in New York with Federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
