Topic Description: Gold and Silverwork

"GOLD AND SILVERWORK" focuses on the production, acquisition and use of objects in worked gold and silver, with particular attention to gold and silverworking techniques. References are not usually indexed to gold and silver in the abstract as money of exchange ("abbiamo venduto il frumento per cinque ducati di oro").

References to "JEWELS AND JEWELRY", "COINS AND MEDALS", "ARMS AND ARMOR", "ANTIQUITIES AND ANTIQUARIANISM", "STATE GIFTS" and "RELICS (sacred)" are cross-indexed only when they include significant technical or contextual information regarding gold and silverwork. All gold and silverworkers who are known by name are indexed as "ARTISTS."

References to unnamed or otherwise obscure gold and silverworkers ("Giovanni l'orefice") are generally indexed under "GOLD AND SILVERWORK", even when they appear in contexts not directly relevant to this activity ("abbiamo comprato una casa per l'orafo tedesco.")
