Topic Description: Coins and Medals

"COINS AND MEDALS" encompasses all aspects of the creation and use of modern coins and medals as well as the collection and use of ancient coins and medals. This includes: discussions of medal-making techniques (casting, striking, etc.); the acquisition of equipment, materials and personnel for the Florentine mint and other mints; the design (including inscriptions) and distribution of coins and medals for ideological or propagandistic purposes.

Discussions of larger items such as "medaglioni" and "plaquettes" are cited when they inform our understanding of numismatic or medal-making practice. All references to the discovery, collecting and study of ancient coins and medals are cross-indexed under "ANTIQUITIES AND ANTIQUARIANISM".

Discussions of advanced technology relevant to medalmaking are cross-indexed under "NATURAL SCIENCES". All references to identifiable portraits on coins or medals are cited as "PORTRAITS" in the "PEOPLE" index.

The MEDICI ARCHIVE PROJECT INC. is registered as a non-profit corporation in New York with Federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
