Martha McGeary Snider

Martha McGeary Snider, Vice Chair, has served as Chair of the Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2010. She draws on her love of art and culture to inspire a respect and appreciation for the world’s artistic treasures. She is a philanthropist dedicated to reigniting a passion for culture and innovation. Her leadership has garnered support from influential members of the cultural and academic worlds in the United States and Europe. In June, 2008, President George W. Bush recognized Martha’s commitment to philanthropy by presenting her with The President’s Volunteer Service Award.

In addition to Martha’s role as MAP’s Board Chair, she serves as Governor Edward G. Rendell’s Policy Advisor on Arts and Culture for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She works directly with the Governor to advance cultural, heritage and arts initiatives throughout the Commonwealth. Martha serves in this capacity as a volunteer.

Martha was instrumental in connecting the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza, the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, and The Medici Archive Project for the exhibition, Galileo, the Medici and the Age of Astronomy at the Franklin Institute from April 4 to September 7, 2009. This exhibition celebrates the important role that Medici patronage played in the advancement of scientific discovery. (See EXHIBITIONS)

Martha serves on several boards including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Susquehanna Art Museum, The American Revolution Center at Valley Forge, Gettysburg Festival, International Visitors Council, Globalislocal Foundation, Philadelphia's Children First Fund, The Council of Emeritus Directors of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Board of Visitors, Tyler School of Art.
